Just spent a great weekend on Snowdon assisting two parties with their ambitions to complete the national three peaks 24hr challenge. Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon.
I was picked up at 3am on Saturday morning in Llanberis and met with my first group about an hour later. With head torches on, there was no hanging about, they had just over four and a half hours to get up and down! The P-Y-G track was the route of choice and clearly had been for others having spied small spots, clusters and lines of head torch lights weaving there way along the same path an hour or so earlier. The weather was kind, cool and still yet with a murky cloud above enveloping Snowdon.
As the light improved, we were lucky enough to experience a temperature inversion as the cloud spilled over Bwlch Y Seathau, exposing the tip of Lliwedds peak. Snowdon was briefly unwrapped of her cloak of cloud as she stood towering above, reminding us of the height to gain.
The visit to the top was brief, with time pressing on and no view to be had due to cloud return a quick picture and a sprint for the car park at Pen Y Pass was the agreed plan of action for a well deserved cup of tea and slaps on backs all round. Well done gents.
